Luanda - The European Union (EU) plans to mobilize 25 million euros, in 2025, to finance the blue economy in Angola, the French ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert, assured Wednesday in Luanda Province.
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the meeting on Ocean Currents (Blue Talk Ocean), promoted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, in partnership with the French Embassy in Angola, the diplomat said that the said amount serves to reinforce the preservation of marine resources in a sustainable way.
She recalled that Angola and France worked together, two years ago, with the Earth Laboratory Ship in the scientific campaign, which strengthened bonds, especially in the fisheries sector.
In turn, the national director for marine resources, Tânia Barreto, presented the sustainability of marine resources, aquaculture and mariculture as the country's most indicative priorities, and the latter must be developed where there are appropriate conditions.
He also reiterated the continuous monitoring and combating of undeclared fishing, as well as the reinforcement of knowledge and science, so that in the future the contribution of the oceans will really be the factor for the growth of the countries of the cold Benguela Current and the Gulf of Guinea.
The meeting on Ocean Currents, held virtually, also served to present the global framework of the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Oceans, to be held in June 2025, in France, with emphasis on three major priorities: legal, economic and scientific.
During the event, the 17 regional experts previously positioned in research in Africa, particularly in Angola, assessed fishing sources and sustainability, as well as marine protected areas.
The blue economy has several components, but Angola intends to focus more on the research component, with its research ship Baia Farta.
