Luanda - The ambassador of Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Miguel da Costa, highlighted, this week, in Lubumbashi, the Lobito Corridor as one of the railway infrastructures of high importance for the flow of minerals between neighboring countries.
According to a press release to which ANGOP had access Friday, the Angolan diplomat made this recognition during the 19th edition of Mining Week (DRC Mining Week) held in Congolese territory.
Run under the motto "Prioritize sustainable mining practices and local transformation in the DRC", the three-day event brought together nearly 1,300 participants from 57 countries, including industry leaders, diplomats and government officials to debate the future of mining in the DRC and partner countries.
The forum also aimed to strengthen the DRC's position as an important mineral producer worldwide, in an initiative by the South African company "Vuka Group".
The 19th edition of the DRC Mining Week also focused on investments in the energy sector, and sought solutions to the problem of the energy deficit, which impairs mining in Congo, according to experts participating in the forum.
The event was marked, among other activities, by exhibitions, conferences and debates around the contributions of mining operators and service providers, to favor the development of the economy in the region.
In 2023, under the high patronage of the Presidents of Angola and the DRC, two well-attended economic forums were held, in Kinshasa and Luanda, respectively, under the theme "Economic partnerships, towards mutual growth", with the aim of reinforcing the commitment of both States, especially in the quest for sustainable economic investment opportunities.
