Ombadja – Two national citizens were arrested Saturday (9th) in possession of USD 1.9 million fake notes, police have announced.
Police said that the men, aged 36 and 39 years old, were arrested in Xangongo, Ombadja municipality, southern Cunene province, following a tip-off.
The spokesman for Provincial Police Command in Cunene, superintendent Nicolau Tuvecalela, said that the suspects were found in possession of a suitcase, containing the counterfeit bank notes, in the 11 de Novembro neighbourhood.
He explained that the criminals, who intended to put into circulation counterfeit currency, in US$100 bills, were referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The operation is part of the fight against crime underway in the region.
In September 2021, four citizens were arrested in Cunene in possession of one trillion fake notes and a gun.
