Credit to non-financial sector rises in April

Luanda - Gross credit to non-financial sector totaled 6.4 trillion kwanzas in April, an increase of around 1.6 trillion kwanzas (31.9%) compared to the same period last year, a statement from the National Bank of Angola Statistical Information said Wednesday.

The statement says the total value of credit, 89.2 percent represents the indebtedness of the private sector (private companies and individuals) and 10.8 percent for the public sector (public administration and public companies).

It adds that the credit to non-financial public sector totaled 696.01 billion kwanzas, of which 53.96% were addressed to public administration and 46.04% to public companies, representing 282.2 billion (68.21%) growth.

In contrast, it said the debt of the private sector went from 4.46 trillion kwanzas in April 2023 to 5.73 trillion kwanzas in the same month this year.

Also in the period under review, gross credit directed to the Real Sector of the Economy totaled Kz 1.31 trillion, an increase of 407.78 billion kwanzas (45.30 percent) compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, driven mainly by the significant increase in the Manufacturing sub-sector, which saw an increase in resources of around Kz 196.13 billion (41.25 percent).

According to the Central Bank, the total credit granted for the promotion of the Real Sector totaled 1.10 trillion kwanzas, representing 83.86% of the total loans granted to this sector and 17.16% of the banking system's gross credit portfolio.

Compared to the same period last year, there was a significant increase of 245.83 billion kwanzas (28.89%).

In terms of sub-sectors of economic activity, the total credit granted to the Real Sector stands out in the Manufacturing Industry, with 671.6 billion kwanzas (51.35%), of which 605.9 billion (96.96%) corresponds to credit under Notice 10/2022 of April 6.

It included credit granted to the extractive Industry, with 339.18 billion kwanzas (25.93%), of which 201.87 billion kwanzas (63.70%) were granted under the aforementioned notice, and Agriculture, Animal Production, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing, with 297.15 billion kwanzas (22.72%).
