Huambo – Angola Post service in central-south region of the country collected, in 2023, a total of 16 million, 449 thousand 551 Kwanzas, with the sending and reception of miscellaneous parcels, compared to 24 million 669 thousand in the previous year.
The information was provided to ANGOP on Tuesday by the director of Angola Post service in this region of the country, Jorge Baião, who said that the reduction in revenues in the provinces of Bié, Cuando Cubango, Cuanza Sul and Huambo (headquarters) resulted, above all, from the company's current lack of competitiveness in the market.
Among the causes of the decrease, he indicated the lack of a postal code in the country, as a service that facilitates the sorting, forwarding and home delivery of correspondence to the recipients, in addition to having indispensable information in the correspondence, which identifies all the details of the address.
He said that this is a negative situation that is being reversed by the current Board of Directors, as part of the company's modernization process, which will give better performance to customers and services provided, taking into account the entry of new competitors in the market.
He assured that revenues may increase after the country implements, in the near future, a postal code, despite the fact that the company currently has its mailboxes, with a lot of adhesion from individuals and public and private institutions.
Jorge Baião stressed that Angola Post service in the central-south region needs at least six vehicles and an equal number of motorcycles for the courier service, which is essential in the processing of customer orders.
Currently, he lamented, all the company's rolling means for this service are out of order, which makes it difficult to fully satisfy customer demands, both in urban areas and in some communes.
He highlighted as a perspective of the company in the region, the return of the culture of the use of the post office by the population and the improvement in the processing of courier services, national and international express, cargo and logistics, among others.
The Central/South region has at least 1,512 functional mailboxes, of which nearly half are leased.
Created on December 7, 1797, Angola’s Post provides various types of services, which include normal, blue, registered, business and postal mail, while conventional mail are separate, motor vehicles tax, internet, fax, digitization and sale of airtime for assorted kind of prepaid services.
