Luanda – At least 4,700 jobs will be generated in the fertilizer manufacturing process to be carried out in Zaire province, aiming at self-sufficiency in the country and possible export of this product.

The project, a private initiative, will be developed in the Soyo Industrial Compound, in an area of 152 hectares, with a production capacity of around 3,870 tons/day of urea and 2,200 tons of ammonia per day, according to the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Amufert consortium, Agostinho Kapaia.

The manager, who was speaking Monday at the official launch of the project, specified that there will be 3,500 jobs in the construction phase of the factory and 1,200 in the production stage, promoting socio-economic development in local and regional communities, especially in the municipality of Soyo.

'The factory will have a capacity to produce one million and 300 tons per year and we are planning to double it in the future. Angola will no longer need to import fertilizers. On the contrary, we will have a surplus to be able to export,' he said.

He informed that the negotiation with the Government is to guarantee the product in the national market to support families, farmers and associations.

In turn, the Minister of Mineral Resources Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that the project has all the means to develop and guaranteed the availability of gas and technical conditions by the sector.

'We came to attend the launch of the project, of ammonia and urea, and we left with the presentation of an integrated fertilizer project, as we have just granted the title for the production of phosphate that provides the NPK compound', he stressed, noting that the ministry has embraced the production of soil correctors and fertilizers.

The minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Assis, underlined the gains of the project, adding that with its implementation the country will avoid spending foreign currency on fertilizer from other countries.

'Therefore, agricultural production necessarily has to grow and then food security issues begin to be more under our own domain,' he said. LIN/VC/DOJ
