Cape Town – The general-director of the Chitotolo Mining Society, Bernardo Campos, noted the interest of several companies who are willing to cooperate in the future for the development of diamond activity in Angola.
While speaking to the press, the official reiterated that they met with several entities who want to invest in the diamond sector as most of them are increasingly motivated to participate.
Regarding productivity, the official said that Chitotolo Mining Society is well placed considering that the company has had good results, especially in 2018 with rising diamond prices.
The head of the company that has more than 1,600 workers, revealed that until 2017, the diamond price was around USD 240/carats and in 2018 it went up to USD 600/carats. Since 2021 it has risen to USD 900/carats.
As it is operating in an area in which part of it has been explored since 1930, the company is now seeking other prospecting actions, which is why it is looking for more modern and affordable equipment.
Chitotolo Mining Society is one of the 12 Angolan companies that is taking part of the Mining Indaba International Conference on Mining in Africa, alongside the National Diamond Company (ENDIAMA), Angola Diamond Trading Company (SODIAM), AJ SILVA Company and the mining companies Catoca Mining Society, Yetwene Project, Furi and Kaixepa Mining Society, Geosondas Engineering Services, Minbos Resources Limited exploration and development company, Ozango Hypermachines Minerals and Shining Star.
The International Conference on Mining in Africa, known as the African Mining Indaba, is now in its 30th edition, is the biggest African event for investments in the mining sector and this year is being held under the motto “Unlocking the Future of Mining in Africa”, bringing together more than 6,000 speakers.
