Luanda - The preliminary results of the General Population and Housing Census (Census 2024) are to be released in the first half of May, the spokesman for the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Implementation of the process, Hernâni Pena Luís, announced on Thursday, in Luanda.
Speaking to the press at the end of the 21st meeting of the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Holding of the 2024 Census, the official said that the release of preliminary data will be brought forward by a post-census survey, which aims to reinforce the consistency of the information collected.
Without giving details of when the final data will be released, the spokesman explained that the survey is a micro-operation and a United Nations regulation, which is due to start in the next few days, involving only a few municipal and communal localities.
On the other hand, Hernâni Pena Luís guaranteed that the census takers, provincial and community technical assistants and others who have signed contracts with the National Statistics Institute (INE) as part of the Census, will be paid.
The meeting of the Multisectoral Commission was led by the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the Head of State, Francisco Pereira Furtado, in his capacity as coordinator, and aimed to review the work carried out during the census process.
The 2024 General Census, under the slogan “Together we count for Angola”, was organised by the Angolan government through the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The massive data collection took place from 19 September to 19 November 2024, after a 30-day extension.
The process involved 79,423 field agents, divided into 67,131 census takers and 12,92 supervisors, who worked throughout the country.
The previous census, which took place from 16 to 31 May 2014, found that there were over 25.7 million inhabitants in the country.
As it was 10 years ago, the 2024 General Census is an essential process for Angolan society to provide concrete and up-to-date indicators that are essential for defining public policies and making decisions.
