Luanda - The National Statistics Institute (INE) is adding up the logistical conditions in the provinces of Luanda, Huíla and Benguela, one of the factors that forced the extension of the start date of the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH) to 19 next September.

According to the spokesperson for the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Implementation of the Census/2024, Hernany Pena Luís, data from the cartographic network shows that the population of these provinces has grown exponentially, a fact that requires reinforcement in programming, to “recalibrate” the logistics in these provinces.

Speaking to the press, at the end of a meeting of the Multisectoral Commission, he reiterated that the extension of the census period, from 19th July to 19th September this year, “does not change in any way the collection of information to be carried out ”, but rather provides a space to collect information in different parts of the national territory in a more precise way.

On the occasion, the deputy director general of INE assured that, practically, the entire structure for carrying out the Census has already been set up, and a re-evaluation of the process is currently being carried out.

Regarding possible constraints to be faced during the rainy season, Hernany Pena Luís said that INE will count on support from the Ministry of Defense, which will provide air and land resources to meet the needs during the census period.

Regarding the selection and recruitment process of more than 79 thousand field agents, the spokesperson assured that this phase is proceeding normally and the results of the tests will be published in the coming days.

The Census/2024, which will take place under the motto 'Together we count for Angola”, is the second one that the country has carried out, in the post-independence period.

The last General Population and Housing Census was carried out in May 2014, having recorded more than 25 million inhabitants, of which close to seven million in Luanda.

The 2014 Census also showed that the majority of the Angolan population was made up of women (13.2 million), while men were 12.4 million. HM/QCB/DOJ
