Mbanza Kongo – The co-ordinator of the Angolan Chieftains Nucleus in Mbanza Kongo Municipality, Zaire Province, Afonso Mendes, on Tuesday defended the need to see reinforced the campaign of sensitisation of the population on the 2024 Census by using the country’s vernacular languages, mainly in remote localities.
Speaking to ANGOP, Afonso Mendes said that the diffusion of messages in national vernaculars, regarding the importance of the Population and Housing Census2024, would enable a greater reach and better understanding of the process.
According to the chieftain, the citizens must participate in this census process with patriotism, for this helps the government to draft public policies to the benefit of the people.
He appealed to the population to collaborate with the census staff, aiming at the success of the whole process.
“The census data enable the Government to project infrastructures in the domains of health, education, roads, energy and waters, transport, among other social undertakings (...)”, he explained.
Meanwhile, a technical team led by the deputy co-ordinator of the Census2024, Ângela Diogo, was recently in the municipalities of Cuimba, Nóqui, Tomboco, Nzeto and Soyo assessing the preparations taking place for the start of the process.
In the last census, held in 2014, the northern Zaire Province recorded a population of about 595,428,00 distribute in nine municipalities.
