Luena - The installed electricity capacity in the city of Luena (Moxico) will rise from the current 50 megawatts (MW) to 75 MW, with the conclusion of the installation of the new turbine at the Luena 3 Thermal Power Station (WARTSILA), scheduled for the end of September.
The installed energy capacity in the city of Luena is 52.8 MW, resulting from 26 MW from the Photovoltaic Energy Park, 12.4 MW from the Tchihumbwe-Dala hydroelectric dam, 4.4 MW from the Luena 2 ‘Hyundai’ Thermal Power Station and 10 MW from Luena 3 ‘WARTSILA’.
Despite this capacity, the supply still falls short of the population's expectations due to technical problems with the thermal and hydroelectric plants, and the gradual availability of the photovoltaic plant, given its specific nature.
In this sense, it is expected that with the start-up of this new 25 MW turbine at the end of September or beginning of October, practical household supply will reach close to 40 MW, and could reach 75 MW with the normalisation of the photovoltaic plant in the near future.
At the end of a visit by the provincial governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, to the project, the deputy governor for the Technical and Infrastructure sector, Wilson Augusto, said that he expected the turbine to create a robust demand of 60 megawatts in the city of Luena and broaden the distribution base.
The expansion of the energy supply to outlying neighbourhoods will cover the Samalesso neighbourhood and part of Km 5. ISAU/YD/DAN/DOJ
