Lucapa - The mining town of Calonda will benefit from the electrical energy being produced by the photovoltaic plant that is being installed in the municipal headquarters of Lucapa, Lunda-Norte Province.
The town of Calonda is 11 kilometers from the municipal seat of Lucapa and in addition to ore (diamond) it has agricultural and livestock potential.
The information was provided this Saturday by the secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, at the end of the visit to the works on the aforementioned plant, which will have the capacity to produce 7.19 megawatts.
“Initially the town of Calonda was not included, but taking into account its mineral and agricultural potential, we found a solution so that the energy to be produced in the photovoltaic plant also benefits the locality”, he highlighted.
Without mentioning details of the project, Arlindo Carlos made it known that the physical execution works goes to 93%.
ANGOP found that 12,900 solar panels, 10 transformation stations, support structures that include civil engineering have already been installed, as well as the distribution network completed.
The plant is being installed on an area of three hectares and is valued at €19.706.428, and 80% of which is financed by Sweden and 20% by South Africa.
The project foresees 700 home connections with prepaid devices and the construction of a vocational training pavilion.
With the project concluded, residents will no longer consume energy from private generator sets, which come with high costs.
“We left guidelines, and home connections can begin, so that when the center is fully completed, the population can begin to benefit from it”, he highlighted.
On the other hand, he appealed to the population to collaborate with the authorities, in reporting cases of vandalism of energy equipment and the illegal electricity connection, for the criminal responsibility of the perpetrators.
