Cabinda - More than 300 thousand tons of vegetables are expected to be harvested during the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, opened Friday in the village of Mbaca, Cabinda province, by the governor, Mara Quiosa.
The forecast was advanced by the national coordinator of the Agricultural Value Chain project of the province of Cabinda, José Fernandes, who announced that the expectation is to produce more than 60 percent compared to last season's harvest.
The agrarian leader justifies this increase with the strong support provided to peasants, distributed in 60 field schools, at this time, with the distribution of kits consisting of motor cultivators, motor pumps, hoses, hoes, sugarcanes, seeds, fertilizers and other means of production.
Without giving the number of hectares prepared, he assured that one of the goals of the project is to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of vegetables in the coming months, in the crops of tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant, cabbage, carrots, peppers, among others.
He acknowledged that since the launch of the large-scale production experience of vegetables, in 2023, Cabinda has shown self-sufficiency in this cultivation.
For her part, the governor of Cabinda, Mara Quiosa, said that the region has enough reasons to have a well-developed agriculture, capable of reinforcing the diet of the populations.
He said that these reasons are based on sustainable management, with good agricultural and environmental techniques, excellent climate and soil conditions and water potential to promote any type of agriculture.
He advocated the need to continue to make large investments in mechanized agriculture, in order to increasingly increase the levels of agricultural production in the province as a way to diversify the economy, generate jobs and improve family income. JFC/PA/DOJ
