Luanda - The National Bank of Angola (BNA) has put into circulation new 1,000 and 2,000 kwanza notes, with the same 2020 series, as part of current cash management, the BNA governor Manuel Tiago Dias said Friday.
The governor, who was speaking after a meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (CPM), explained that the difference between the new notes and the others in force is the signature of the current BNA governor and the date of issue.
Manuel Tiago announced that alongside the 1,000 and 2,000 notes, the BNA will soon put into circulation a new 5,000 note, with the same 2020 series.
According to the governor, this new notes of Kwanza will have some changes to its characteristics and security features, as well as bearing the signature of the current Central Bank manager and having a new issue date.
The BNA official clarified that the new notes and the others in the same series (2020) will continue to circulate simultaneously, regardless of the date of issue, having recalled that in 2023, an overall 2,500 counterfeit notes were detected, most notably the 5,000 kwanza note, out of a total of 500 million notes.
