Luanda- National Bank of Angola (BNA) issued 93.75 million kwanza banknotes (Angolan currency) of the 2020 Series in 2022, with a monetary value of 144.34 billion kwanzas, 72.10% less compared to 2021.
In 2021, the BNA even issued a higher volume of 331.70 millions of banknotes, the period it marked the second year, since the new bank notes of Kwanza-Series 2020 came into circulation, replacing the Series 2012.
The Kwanza banknotes 2020 Series in circulation, include 200, 500, 1 000, 2 000 and 5 000 bills.
In the same period, 2.17 millions of metal coins were also issued, worth 434 million kwanzas, according to the BNA which brings the figures in its 2022 Annual Report and Accounts.
In terms of the amount issued, both bills and coins, it reduced by 374.13 billion kwanzas compared to 2021.
Thousands of Kz currency in circulation
By the end of 2022, 422.03 million bank notes and 506.63 million coins circulated, equivalent, in monetary terms, of a total of 657.87 billion kwanzas.
Of this total, 98% are banknotes, worth 644.70 billion kwanzas and 2% metallic coins, 13.17 million kwanzas.
The withdrawal of the 2012 Series bank notes and the increase in deposits of lower denomination bills (200 and 500 Kz), occurred in the last quarter, influenced the reduction of monetary circulation, by 3.18% compared to 2021.
Within the framework of bank note durability, four of the five denominations were printed in polymer (plastic) and one in cotton - 5 000 kwanza banknote.
