Luanda - National Bank of Angola (BNA) has instituted sanctions against three commercial banks for having violated the rules for the protection of consumers of financial products and services.
They are the Millennium Atlântico, BAI and Keve banks.
As a result, the banking institutions are required to pay a total amount of AKz 126 million, according to the statement published on the BNA website reached ANGOP Thursday.
In its publication, BNA states that Banco Millennium Angola (BMA) will pay AKz 56 million for its failure to comply with the rules and procedures to perform interbank transfer operations in national currency.
Banco Millennium Angola breached the regulations on consumer protection of financial products and services provided for by Law no. 40/20, of 16 December, Payment System Law (LSP), and Notice no. .º 09/2017, of 15 August, a contravention foreseen and punishable under the terms of this notice.
Therefore, Banco Angolano de Investimentos (BAI) will pay AKz 40 million. The financial institution was sanctioned for failing to comply with the regulatory deadline for carrying out an interbank transfer operation in national currency.
Also for failing to comply with the deadline for providing information related to the complaint presented, facts that violate the regulations regarding consumer protection of financial products and services.
Banco Keve was also sanctioned for non-compliance with special registration rules and failure to comply with specific determinations of the BNA, established
in the Law on the General Regime of Financial Institutions and in Notice no.11/2020, of April 2, with a financial penalty of 30
million kwanzas being applied. QCB/BA/TED/NIC
