Malanje - A Regional Forum on “Bringing Dynamics into the Angolan Economy: Strategies for the Growth of the Productive and Housing Sectors in 2024” was promoted Thursday by the National Bank of Angola (BNA), with a view to identifying the main barriers to credit.

The event, which brought together economic agents, representatives of commercial banks, and the Angolan Financial System, falls within the scope of the BNA's strategic plan, called “Libongo 2024”, and also aims to propose opportunities that contribute to the country's economic sustainability.

During the forum, the northeast regional director of the BNA, Isabel Gomes, stressed that, as a central bank, the institution has, among other responsibilities, the creation of strategies that ensure the monitoring of credit granting, regardless of its nature and purpose.

She noted that, as a result of this action, until the first quarter of the year, the amount of credit to the real sector of the economy under notice 10/2022, of April 6, was 1.14 billion Kz ($1 = 847,93Kz), representing 88% of the credit portfolio destined for the productive sector.

She said that such numbers are still below what is intended, so efforts continue to be carried out, with a view to facilitating access to credit, through the creation of efficient regulatory and operational conditions, with a view to increasing national production and reducing imports.

She also stressed that, depending on these variables, the BNA is holding a meeting to promote discussions on the operationalization of credit, as a primary tool for boosting the real estate and production sectors, with a view to realizing the perspectives of Angolan companies and families.

Guided by the BNA Credit Monitoring Office, the meeting lasted a few hours and discussed topics such as Innovative Financing for Housing Development and Promoting Productive Growth through Strategic Partnerships, among others.

Mlanje is the second province to host this forum, after Uíge. The next meeting will take place in Benguela.
