Malanje – Five hundred tons of sugar are produced daily by the Angolan Bioenergy Company (BIOCOM), to meet the country's needs, the company's stock management coordinator, Valdemiro Filipe, said Monday.
This figure, according to the official, satisfies 40 percent of national consumption and saves state foreign currencies with the import of sugar.
Speaking during a visit by deputies from the Malanje circle to the unit, Valdemiro Filipe said that this production corresponds to 30,000 bags of 1 kg and 15,000 bags of 50 kg, which are sold in the largest commercial areas in the country, especially Luanda.
He informed that the factory has two warehouses with storage capacities of 85 thousand tons and 75 thousand tons of sugar.
In turn, BIOCOM's agricultural manager, Fernando Pitra said that at this time 30,000 hectares of sugarcane are cultivated, with a harvest forecast of about 1.3 million tons of sugar by November this year.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the deputies of Malanje, Ana da Purificação, considered the level of production satisfactory, because in addition to sugar, it also supplies ethanol to the country's industries.
On the other hand, the parliamentarian was concerned about the fact that the direct impact of BIOCOM's sugar on the consumers' table, from the informal and formal markets of Malanje, is not felt.
In addition to sugar, the Company also produces 16,000 cubic meters of ethanol and 16,000 megawatts of energy/day and expects to reach a production of more than 200,000 tons of sugar in the coming years.
BIOCOM is located in the Agro-industrial hub of Capanda, in the municipality of Cacuso and has more than 5,000 employees.RM/NC/PBC/DOJ
