Malanje- Sixty thousand tonnes of white sugar and 11 million liters of ethanol were placed on the national market in June this year, the Angolan Bioenergy Company (BIOCOM) said on Friday.
Dubbed “Kapanda Sugar”, the product has been sold throughout the country at price of 28,000 kwanzas per 50-kilogram bag, according to the company’s director of Finance, Planning and Strategy, Noé Cardoso.
The manager said that 40 percent of sugar consumed in the country is supplied by the company, adding that the initiative contribute to a reduction in imports.
The source said the firm produces 60 percent of its capacity and expects to reach peak production of 250,000 tons, 19,000 cubic meters of ethanol and 16 megawatts of electricity, by 2027.
He appealed to local businessmen to sign contracts with the company, as Kapanda sugar is the cheapest in the national market.
Noé Cardoso said that sugar is also being used as a raw material in the food industry for the production of juices, fizzy drinks, candies, among other products.
The country currently consumes around 300,000 tons of sugar/year, of which around 40 percent is supplied by BIOCOM, from its unit installed in the municipality of Cacuso, northern province of Malanje.
With 2000 workforce, the firm has more than 30,000 hectares of cultivated land and an installed production capacity of 2.2 million tons of sugarcane. PBC/TED/NIC
