Dundo – The African Development Bank (AfDB) made available around 2.6 million US dollars for the development of studies and projects on the Nzagi/Tchicolondo border section, as part of the road rehabilitation program.
The information was provided this Thursday, in Dundo, by the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Dos Santos, at the end of his working visit to the province of Lunda-Norte, highlighting that the rehabilitation program of the aforementioned section, includes construction of two bridges and public lighting in the villages.
This section provides access to the Tchicolondo border, one of the main sources of tax revenue collection in the country and the largest in Lunda Norte, and its rehabilitation aims, in addition to improving circulation, to boost cross-border trade.
The government official stated that the project will begin to be implemented this year, the first phase of which includes the preparation of studies and projects, to later define the necessary budget for the rehabilitation of the section.
Later this year, he continued, the rehabilitation of National Road 170 is scheduled to begin, on the Camaxilo-Lubalo-Xinge section, covering a length of 190 kilometres.
“We will visit this section to check the latest technical analysis elements, then we will improve the terms of reference that have already begun to be defined so that a public tender will soon be opened for the rehabilitation of this road that connects three municipalities in this province and two important national roads, which are 225 and 230”, he highlighted.
Regarding the Cuango-Cafunfo-Loremo section to the border with the DRC, Carlos Dos Santos informed that it is in the portfolio of projects to be intervened only in the economic year 2025.
He announced that the ministry is developing an earthmoving program for some sections in the country, using effective methods and equipment, such as soil stabilizers, which provide durability and require very important drainage solutions.
On the other hand, he made it known that in the coming days, a team from the National Institute of Roads of Angola (INEA) will travel to the province of Lunda-Norte to update the inventory of the number of bridges existing in the region in order to intervene in the future on those that do not present conditions.
He revealed that the Angolan Executive Angola, within the scope of agreements with the United States of America, will carry out interventions for a set of bridges in the province of Lunda-Norte. HD/CF/DOJ
