Dundo - The authorities of Lunda-Norte province defend the need to transfer the management of diamond exploration companies to the province, aiming for greater supervision of the payment of fiscal taxes, social security and facilitating the hiring of local workforce.
Diamond exploration companies operating in Lunda-Norte are domiciled in Luanda, which obliges them to pay their taxes in the country's capital.
According to the final communiqué of the methodological meeting between the Government of Lunda-Norte and diamond exploration companies, the domiciliation and/or transfer of diamonds will boost the implementation of socioeconomic projects, within the framework of their social responsibilities.
Participants also recommended permanent consultations with the INEFOP training center on the availability of local staff for hiring, reuse of exploited areas for family agricultural production purposes, with support from mines.
They recommended the need for public consultations by mining companies and projects to implement social projects that respond to the population's desires and scrupulous compliance with environmental protection laws.
They defended the creation of departments dedicated to environmental protection, as well as the use of disused exploration areas for the construction of sanitary landfills.
During the meeting, which was attended by ten mining companies, issues were discussed regarding mining production and environmental impact, tax domicile of mining companies operating in the province, compliance with social responsibility, employability and massive layoffs, professional training, and others.
