Mbanza Kongo – Thirty-two million and 500 thousand kwanzas, which were destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were, on Thursday, seized by the National Police, in the border commune of Luvo, Zaire province.
According to the spokesperson for the Zaire Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior, Sérgio Afonso, the amount was found in the possession of a DRC citizen, when he intended to cross the border towards the neighboring country.
He added that the amount was detected inside a backpack that the aforementioned citizen was carrying, after inspection by staff from the Provincial Department of Investigation and Criminal Offenses (DIIP), posted in the commune of Luvo.
This is the second seizure of money that the National Police in the commune of Luvo has made, in less than two weeks.
On January 26th of this year, $12,100 dollars were seized at the same border post, which were also destined for the DRC.
The border commune of Luvo is 60 kilometers north of the city of Mbanza Kongo, capital of the province of Zaire. JL/DOJ
