Mbanza Kongo - An artisanal vessel, from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), was seized Tuesday, in the municipality of Soyo, by the Border Guard Police in Zaire province, for illegal fishing.
The information was provided Wednesday to ANGOP, by the spokesman for the Zaire Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior, Sérgio Afonso, who said that during the operation eight fishermen from the DRC who were on board the vessel were arrested.
According to the source, the aforementioned fishermen in an irregular migratory situation, practiced the activity nine miles from the sea coast of the municipality of Soyo.
He added that the occupants of the vessel will be handed over in the coming days to the competent bodies for the procedural process.
The province of Zaire has a sea coast of 250 kilometers, crossed by the municipalities of Soyo, Nzeto and Tomboco. JL/DOJ
