Luanda - The National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and oil companies on Thursday signed two of the four expected direct concession contracts for equal oil blocks in the Kwanza Basin.

These are oil blocks of the Kwanza onshore Basin, namely KON 2 and KON 11, with the contracts signed on Thursday, and KON12 and KON 16, whose initialing of the documents by the ANPG and the contractor groups takes place today, May 26, 2023.

Parts of these blocks have had production in the past, by Fina oil company, but were abandoned between 1997/1998 due to the damages of pipelines.

The attribution of the Blocks onshore fits the strategy of the National Concessionary to mitigate the decline of production, which is currently at 1.1 million barrels/day.

This strategy already approved, in decree, of 2019, provides for the licensing of 55 new concessions, having already attributed half of this set of blocks.

The signing of contracts for the Blocks Kon 2, marks the entry of the US Multinationals Intank Group, Brite`s Oil and Gas and the Canadian MTI Energy to Angola’s oil market.

For the Kon11 oil block, where Sonangol appears as an operator, the consortium is made up of Brite´s and Atlas Group, Simple Oil and Gas and Omega Risk Solutions.

The national concessionaire, ANPG, ensures continuing to work to increase production with the attraction of new investors.
