Luanda – The 3rd edition of the International Forum of Information and Communication Technologies of Angola ANGOTIC-2023, which was attended by over 8,000 visitors, bringing together roughly 100 start-ups and over 100 companies from 21 countries ended Wednesday.
Speaking at the first day of the country’s biggest showcase, Angolan president João Lourenço announced the installation of a cyber security academy in the country, whose aim to provide secure and robust telecommunications and information technology service, in defence of the users, while creating regulatory conditions in the use of telecommunications networks.
João Lourenço visited the exhibition pavilion, where several companies presented a range of technological products and services in telecommunications, business management solutions, and cyber intelligence.
Still in the first day of the event, the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Media, Mario Oliveira spoke of the need for information technologies to be made available to the communities to contribute to the development of the country, demonstrating the need for the extension of technological services throughout the national territory, connecting the country to the world.
During the first day, a memorandum of understanding to exchange experience and train staff in information and communication technologies was signed by Angola and the Republic of Zambia.
The implementation of technology industry 5.0 was also addressed in order to provide greater support from robotics in the work performed by humans.
The second day was marked by the launch of 10 small satellites from Cabo Ledo (in Luanda) and attended at the Talatona Convention Centre.
The day was also reserved for the signing of a protocol between Angolan company LiraLink Technology and China's ZTE to make it possible to set up a 4G and 5G mobile phones factory in Angola.
Speaking at the closing ceremony (third day) the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media (MINTTICS), Mário de Oliveira, said he hopes that the ANGOTIC helps to improve the socio-economic development of the country.
"We thank all those who contributed to the realisation of the forum. We hope, with it, to place one more stone in the socio-economic development of our country, for the welfare of our people", Oliveira said.
The 3rd edition of ANGOTIC 2023 - International Forum of Information and Communication Technologies of Angola, with the motto “Connectivity and Technological Modernization”, took place at the Talatona Convention Center, after two years of stoppage, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speakers and moderators from Japan, United Kingdom, Brazil, Nigeria, Lesotho, South Africa, United States of America, Canada, Spain, Serbia, Uganda, France, Namibia, Portugal, Zambia, Ivoire Coast, Sweden, Argentina, Ethiopia, Malawi, and São Tomé participated in the event, in which different themes of the technology sector were addressed.
ANGOTIC 2023 is a global event on information and communication technologies, held and promoted by the Government of Angola, through the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
First two editions
The event began in 2018, at the time, 21 plenary and parallel sessions were held, with 98 speakers (of which 33 international guests) and 16 moderators.
In its first edition there were more than 4,480 people who attended the event, with an average 150 participants per exhibition room.
The event also showed that, although there has been, in recent years, a certain technological advance and the emergence of new players, startups and young entrepreneurs, Angola still needs to be more open in the adherence of new technologies and follow the evolution of the market.
At ANGOTIC 2019 at least 150 speakers and moderators participated in the event, as well as representatives of public and private companies from the telecommunications, information technology, meteorology and postal services sectors, among others. HEM/AC/Amp/jmc
