Ndalatando - Angola is creating conditions to produce ferrosilicon, a useful mineral, for the steel industry that Angola has been importing for years, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo said on Monday in Ndalatando.
The minister, who is in Cuanza-Norte for a two-day working visit, said that the country has the conditions to exist this mineral and energy to exploit it and stop importing it.
According to Diamantino de Azevedo, the ministry launched the challenge of producing ferrosilicon to a company that is building manganese and ferromanganese processing factories in the municipality of Lucala.
Ferro silicon is an alloy composed of iron and silicon. It is widely used in various industries as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and alloying agent.
It is used in the steel and foundry industries and in the production of aluminum, copper-based and nickel alloys.

Today, the first day of the visit, the minister and the entourage accompanying him work in the municipality of Lucala, to check out the manganese mining project.
The group will also check the storage capacity of fuel in the province.
On Tuesday, the last day of the visit, the delegation will discuss with the local government the geological potential of the province and analyse the work of companies that are prospecting and exploring mineral resources.
The meeting aims to improve the work between the ministry, regulatory agencies and the Government of Cuanza-Norte, to better promote the mineral resources sector in the province.
Data from the local government show that the province has great untapped ore potential. There are 38 mining companies registered in Cuanza Norte, of which 14 are operational.
