Luanda – Angola’s oil firm Sonangol unveiled Monday the pipeline to transport fuel for the aircraft (Jet-A1), in what it believes that the inauguration of the infrastructure will help reduce USD 3.2 million a year in operating costs.
The construction of the so-called “Pipeline Jet-A1 Project”, with a length of 25 kilometers, which connects the Boavista-5 facilities to the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, was completed in 2005, a period in which it came to a standstill.
It resumed in June 2020, with rehabilitation works, equipment, as well as the adaptation of the new technologies.
The works cost over 2 million dollars, out of an overall cost of over 29 million dollars.
This pipeline will supply 22,500 cubic meters of fuel, distributed in three tanks of 7,500 cubic meters each, in 13 hours, different from the four days to carry out this operation to date.
In his speech at the inaugural ceremony, the CEO of Sonangol, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, said that the activation of the “Pipeline Jet-A1” is part of the fulfillment of the strategic objective of the distribution and trade business unit aimed to the resizing of the infrastructures and means of support, as well as the company's digitalisation.
According to him, this action is in line with the preservation of the environment, as it reduces the risk of fuel spillage on public roads, it removes 84 tanker trucks that daily transported the Jet-A1 to the planes.
The manager said that “Sonangol will record a reduction in transport costs of around 3.2 million dollars per year, in addition to the fact that the operation of transporting fuel for aircraft is safer and more efficient”.
The minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, said that the implementation of this project constitutes a milestone for the transport of the Jet-A1 in the country.
He added that it will reduce the number of trucks for the supply of fuel and the reduction of operating costs.
