Luanda – The minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Neto dos Santos, on Friday in Cabo verde shared the experience of Angola in the implementation of the “Blue School”, which aims to create schooling networks committed to the protection of oceans.

Speaking at the opening panel of the 3rd Conference on the Ocean Decade, which happened on the 7th and 8th of the current month in that west African country, the minister said Blue School is focused, essentially, on education for marine sustainability, and it is integrated in the national school syllabus, with stimulus for concrete actions towards the conservation of marine ecosystems.

Cited on a press note that has reached ANGOP, the Angolan government official also pointed to university, quality, excellence, innovation, creativity and integration of knowledge as the base principles of the Angolan education system.

On the occasion, the President of Cabo Verde, José Maria Neves, manifested his hope that the results of the conference represent improvements in the health and sustainability of oceans, as as been defended by national and international specialists.

He reiterated the need to create a global synergy for the promotion of literacy on oceans.

On the fringes of the event, the Cabo Verdean Head of State held a courtesy meeting with minister Carmen dos Santos, who was accompanied by the Angolan ambassador to Cabo Verde, Júlia Machado.

Held under the theme “Sustainable oceans, resilients societies: Educate for the Future”, the Oceans Decade Conference is an inititiative of the President of Cabo verde, who has been distinguished by UNESCO as Champion for Oceans Preservation and Patron of the Ocean Decade Alliance. QCB/jmc
