Luanda- A delegation from the Angolan Cargo and Logistics Certification Regulatory Agency (ARCCLA) is participating since Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland, in the 11th multi-annual session of experts in maritime transport, logistics and trade facilitation.
According to a press release that has reached ANGOP, at the two-day meeting the administrator for the Dynamization of the National Network of Logistics Platforms, Paula Bartolomeu, presented the Caála's Logistics Platform Project, for the Province of Huambo, which is in an advanced stage of development, as a pilot project for the cold logistics chain strategy in the country.
When speaking on the panel that addressed the topic of "Sustainable and resilient transport and logistics systems for food security", Paula Bartolomeu also presented an intermediate and complementary solution to Caála's Platform Project.
The same solution consists of mobile refrigerated containers powered by solar energy, which will be installed in different parts of the country, and which can extend the useful life of products by up to 10 times.
Such a project will allow products to be sold at more competitive prices, or in more distant markets, avoiding the disruption of the value chain, as well as having a positive impact on food security, economic prosperity and reduction of carbon emissions.
According to her, cold infrastructures offer a storage service at controlled temperature and humidity, with the aim of reducing post-harvest losses, which can vary from 30% to 50%, in the absence of adequate storage.
“The project will contribute to increasing the income of small farmers by up to 100%, through better conservation and stability in the selling price of their products”, she said.
Paula Bartolomeu also said that the infrastructures of the intermediate solution are programmed to provide a more immediate response to the goods storage needs of small and large producers.
The event, which brings together several Member States and experts from the public and private sectors to share experiences and debate solutions, aims to respond to the disruption caused by geopolitical conflicts and climate factors in global supply chains.
The meeting takes place under the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) umbrella and its main theme is "Maritime Transport in Times of Multiple Crises".
