Luanda - The National Director of Public Works, Lucau Kiampuku said Angola needs 2.2 million homes by 2050, due to the real trend of population growth.
Speaking at the Angolan Construction Forum, the official said that despite the fact that more than two million people have been housed, there is a housing deficit.
“If the need for 2.2 million homes is not met, the number could rise to four million, taking into account the aforementioned population growth rate”, he explained.
According to Kiampuku, the government has approved the directed self-construction program to reduce housing deficit where the State provides subdivided land with legal security and infrastructures.
The program was created to encourage real estate investment and ensure the efficient functioning of the housing market, allowing the acquisition of lots and construction of homes.
“Despite the various adverse economic and financial circumstances, the sector ensured the implementation and maintenance of the priority actions set by the government, focused on promoting the balanced development of the territory that allowed several results to be achieved”, he assured.
The National Director of Public Works recorded that the construction sector generated more than 100,000 jobs from 2018 to 2023.
Lucau Kimpuku praised the initiative of "Assertiva Comunicação" for organizing this forum, to guarantee the continuity of dialogue and consultation with managers, technicians and business associations and academics.
The Angolan Construction Forum addressed topics such as "Competitiveness in the construction sector", "The impact on the economy” and "Challenges for construction companies in crisis scenarios".
