Luanda – Angola qualified, for the first time, for the final phase of the international simulation competition for managing companies on the stock exchange, called “Global Management Challenge” (GMC), which takes place from the 25th to the 27th of this month, in Luanda.
In the competition, the first time to be promoted in Africa, Angola is represented by a team of three young graduates in Telecommunications Engineering course at the High Telecommunications Institute of the Luanda University.
To reach the final, the Angolan team competed in the semi-final with teams from the blue group, made up of Cameroon, Spain and India, which totaled 15 participating countries, eight on the spot and seven online.
Besides Angola, in this group, India also reached the final, making a total of six countries, namely Angola, China, Russia, India, Georgia and Uzbekistan, of which the winner will be announced this Wednesday, during an award ceremony.
In the universe of 15 participating countries, Cameroon, Togo, Benin, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, China, Estonia and Ecuador were left out of the final.
In reaction to Angola's qualification for the final, Elísio Pataca, one of the members of the Angolan team, recognized the potential of all competitors, a fact that required a lot of caution and commitment in decision-making to reach the final stage.
Speaking to the press, he considered it a good experience to participate in the Global Management Challenge, manifesting his confidence to face the next phase.
In turn, the operations director of the company promoting the Global Management Challenge in Angola “Soik Investments”, João Pereira, said that Angola's qualification for the final represents a historic moment, because this competition has been running for 47 years and is the first time that the country reaches this stage.
He called on managers and university students to compete in similar events, as they allow them to test theoretical and practical knowledge already acquired and share experiences in the business sector.
Of the 47 years of the Global Management Challenge, Angola has competed for 16 years (since 2007), but only this year managed to reach the final.
For the chairman of the Board of Directors of the company that created the Global Management Challenge “SDG”, João Henriques, this competition constitutes a digital platform for training and skills development, as well as a tool that brings the academic class closer to the business class.
He was happy to hold this event for the first time in Africa, particularly in Angola, placing the host country in the showcase of the Global Management Challenge worldwide.
Founded by Simulators and Management Models (SDG) in 1980, in Portugal, GMC is a management simulator considered the most advanced in the world, as every year a national competition is organized, by a local company, in the countries where this platform is represented.
The winning team of the national competition, in the respective country, participates in the international competition, in a country to be indicated by the organization of the Global Management Challenge.
Participations are for teams of two to five members to compete in groups with a maximum of eight teams. Each group constitutes a market, in which they compete against each other, with the team that presents the best results in the performance/quotation of their company's shares on the stock exchange winning.
