Luanda - The Republic of Angola came third in the final of the international simulation competition for managing companies on the stock exchange, dubbed Global Management Challenge (GMC), achieving an unprecedented feat in Africa since it began participating in this global competition back in 2007.
Considered the world's largest strategy and management competition, which took place for the first time in Africa (in the Angolan capital, Luanda), it was won by the People's Republic of China, while Russia came in second place, out of 15 countries.
During the three days of competition, whose winner was announced on Wednesday night, during an awards gala, the Angolan team was represented by three young graduates in the Telecommunications Engineering course at the Telecommunications High Institute of the University of Luanda.
These are young Elísio Pataca, Délcio de Almeida and Pedro Lunguieki, who reached the final stage of the competition for the first time, leaving behind the teams from Cameroon, Spain and India, who competed in the same group (blue - blue).
In addition to these countries, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Togo, Benin, Portugal, Brazil, Estonia, Macau and Ecuador also participated in the competition on ground and online.
After receiving the participation trophy, Pedro Lunguieki, one of the members of the Angolan team, considered the competition a good experience to better manage companies and pass on knowledge to the national market.
Angolan economist Carlos Rosado de Carvalho, who was also one of the competition's jurors, considered reaching third place a source of pride for Angola, hoping that this achievement will serve as an inspiration for the participation of other young people in future editions.
He mentioned that competitions of this kind serve as training for managers to improve their skills in business administration.
In turn, the secretary of State for Mass Media, Nuno Caldas, who presented the trophy to the winning team, stated that the achievement of the first three places in the competition represents an unequivocal sign of the quality of education in Angola.
For the leader, the participation of young Angolans in this test should be an inspiring example for other students, with a view to seeking excellence in knowledge.
Of the 47 years of the Global Management Challenge, Angola has competed for 16 years (since 2007), but only in this edition reached the final phase and therefore the third place, becoming the first African country achieving this goal.
Although there is no monetary value for the participants or the winner of the competition, the Global Management Challenge (GMC) is a digital training and skills development platform, as well as a tool that brings the academic and business classes together.
Founded by Simulators and Management Models in 1980, in Portugal, GMC is a management simulator considered the most advanced in the world, as every year a national competition is organized, by a local company, in the countries where the platform is represented.
The winning team of the national competition, in the respective country, participates in the international competition, in a country to be indicated by the organizers of the Global Management Challenge.
Participations are reserved for teams of two to five members to compete in groups with a maximum of eight teams.
Each group constitutes a market, in which they compete against each other, with the winner being the team that presents the best results in the performance/quotation of their company's shares on the "stock exchange".
