Angola may become self-sufficient in production of animal vaccines

Huambo - Angola may become self-sufficient in the production of animal vaccines, as of 2027 which the date set for conclusion of the factory in Huambo, according to the Agriculture and Forestry minister, António Francisco de Assis, who stated Thursday in the central Huambo Province.

The official was speaking to the press after visiting the construction of the factory, which is underway in the Santo António neighbourhood, on the outskirts of Huambo city, in an area of 20,831 square metres, in the presence of provincial governor, Lotti Nolika.

The factory, which should be completed in 2027, is expected to produce over 181.2 million doses of mammals and birds vaccines per year, as well as 9.384 million units of different diagnostic reagents.

At the time, the minister said that the factory had been set up for annual production of over 30.6 million doses of vaccines for mammals and more than 150.6 million for birds.

The minister said that with this capacity Angola may become self-sufficient in animal vaccine production, taking a qualitative leap in terms of development.

He revealed that it is to be an international factory, in which the Angolan government will invest so that it can first of all assist national needs, then it will focus on providing services to African countries, given that it will have technological capacity for that.

Without detailing the percentage of the physical level of execution of the project, the minister said he was satisfied with the state of the work and left new guidelines for meeting deadlines according to the contract, as it will employ several young Angolans in different areas.

Regarding Fertolisers

In another aspect, in relation to fertilisers, Minister António Francisco de Assis said that the Angolan government was aware of the difficulties faced by rural workers in accessing this product, which the country could still face due to not having a factory of this nature.

He said that this difficulty will be solved once the project to build a fertiliser factory in the municipality of Soyo in Zaire province, which will produce different quantities to increase production.

He said that there were contacts with international partners to set up fertiliser companies in the country to facilitate the growth of agriculture.

The minister noted that Angola had no other way of resolving the consequences of the lack of food production, than to focus on family farming, as it was the most effective way of supplying sufficient quantities of rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and other essential products.

The minister who is in Huambo since Wednesday for a four-day work Schedule on Friday to re-launch wheat production in this region of the country and, on Saturday, to travel to the Calenga commune of Caála municipality, to launch a support plan for traders. ZZN/ALH/MRA/jmc
