Luanda – The Industrial Development Plan of Angola named, PDIA 2025, will be renewed for a five-year period, tht is 2023-2027, aiming to continue the promotion of the development of the national manufacturing industry, revealed Monday in Vienna, Austria, the minister of Industry and Trade, Victor Fernandes.
While speaking at the 50th Session of the Council of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) that is taking place from 21 to 23 this year in Austria, Victor Fernandes considered the PDIA 2025 to be an instrument which systematises the public policy guidelines taking into account economy diversification.
According to the minister of Industry and Trade, this also reflects Angola´s commitments and priorities in international, continental and regional level.
The official highlighted that PDIA objective are based in a medium and long-term vision for Angolan industry, which involves the structural transformation of the sector, based on progressively more integrated development of production chains.
Victor Fernandes recalled that a negotiation on the terms of reference for the Dynamisation of Rural Industrial Parks is ongoing with United Nations Development Programme UNDP under a funding line obtained through the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The document that was already presented in public in 2021 is budgeted in USD 120 million, being 66% for public investment expenses and 34% are expenditure to support development, within the framework of attracting private investors and increasing national production.
In addition to PDIA, the minister of Industry and Trade, Victor Fernandes stated that Angola has drawn up and implemented policies with the objective to reinforce the role of the industrial sector focused on self-sufficience and food security by exemplifying the implementation of the Planagrão programme aiming to increase production, processing and procurement of wheat, rice, corn and soya in the country.
The Angolan minister clarified that with this programme it is expected in a medium term the reduction of imports as well as to boost exports of these products, whether for southern Africa region, as well as to other regions of the world.
The participants of the 50th Session of the Council of the United Nations for Industrial Development are assessing aspects on the impact of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
For three days, the ministers will present documents on the achievement of industrial targets, as well as strategies for mainstreaming of actions of gender empowerment, particularly in rural areas.
UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations to promote and accelerate industrial, economic and sustainable development by supporting countries to industrialize.
