Luanda - The secretary of State for the Economy, Ivan dos Santos, said Tuesday in Luanda that Angola must invest in human capital to achieve the desired development.

The official was speaking on the Perspective for Economic Development in Angola at the Brazil-Angola Relations Business Symposium, part of Brazil Week in Angola, which aims to mark the 201st anniversary of Brazil's independence on July 7.

According to Ivan dos Santos, the national economic development plan is based on two pillars: human capital and food security.

Santos said the outlook for economic growth in Angola is more turned to the non-oil sector, which does not rule out encouraging diversification within the oil industry.

"We encourage foreign investment from Brazil, because that country is a leader in agribusiness", he said, adding that the re-launch of Angola-Brazil cooperation will guarantee growth, especially in this sector.

The Angolan government will continue to work to encourage the presence of Brazilian companies in the agribusiness and medical sectors, the secretary of State said, adding that the production chain is one of the priorities of the 20-50 as well as the implementation of the plan and the production at scale.

The National Director of Agriculture and Farming, Manuel Dias, pointed to family farming as the basis for the development of agricultural production in Angola, although it is still practiced manually, using animal traction, with low yields.

Dias said the aim is to transform family farming into commercial farming, so that farmers can produce not only for their own consumption, but also for the market.

He said that 91.4 per cent of cultivated land is cultivated by family farmers and the rest by commercial farmers.

"The state is called upon to support family farming, whose income base is the family. Family farming needs a greater commitment to production factors in order to have high yields", Dias said.

Angola and Brazil share a good political and diplomatic environment, with a historical relationship that goes back several years.

The Business Symposium Brazil-Angola Relations was organised by the Association of Brazilian Entrepreneurs and Executives in Angola (AEBRAN) attended by businesspeople of both countries and invited guests.

The event also served to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Association of Brazilian Entrepreneurs and Executives in Angola (AEBRAN).
