Ombadja – The Ombadja's municipal administrator, in the southern province of Cunene, Elizeth Mwamelungi, defended a strict fight against fuel smuggling, to safeguard economic stability.

Speaking at the end of a meeting with the community in the village of Xangongo, on Monday, the official considered it important to involve society in combating this practice, which in recent times tends to reach alarming levels.

Data from the national police in Cunene indicate that on average, between one thousand and two thousand liters of fuel (Gasoline and Diesel) are seized weekly on the border between Angola and Namibia.

According to the administrator, the phenomenon constitutes a damage to the economy, which is why it is necessary to combine the efforts of defense and security bodies and the collaboration of the population, who should denounce those who facilitate the exit of fuel.

Those involved in this practice acquire the fuel at pumps and package it, normally in 25 and 200 liter drums, to sell in Namibia, using illegal routes.

The headquarters of the municipality of ombadja has two gas stations.
