Luanda – Eleven Angolans will compete from the 5th to the 15th of November in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, in the 17th Edition of the International Chess Festival, with a view to participating in the 2024 Pan-African games in Ghana.
The competition, which will feature 123 players of different nationalities, both sexes, including Grand Masters (GM), will be played over nine rounds using the Swiss 90-minute system.
According to the secretary general of the Angolan Chess Federation (FAX), Miguel Frade, the caravan will be led by the president of FAX, Tito Martins.
The delegation also includes the vice-president, António Assis and the ''boards'', Erikson Soares and Esperança Caxita (International Masters), Domingos Paulino and Ednásia Júnior (FIDE Masters), Jaime Sonhy and José do Rosário, in addition to Jemima Paulo and Valquíria Rocha.
The ''top 10'' competition ranking will be made up of Grand Masters (GM), Karen Grigorian (Armenia), Eltaj Safarli (Azebarjan), Carlos Cabrera (Cuba), Diptayan Ghosh, M.R Babu Lalit and Prraneeth Vuppala (India), Brandon Jacobson (USA), Youri Solodovnichenko and Vitaliy Bernadskiy (Ukraine) and Igor Janik (Poland).
