Luanda – The Angolan chess player Lutero Santos reached the third place, in the African Junior Championship, for both genders, recently concluded in Egypt.

In the competition, played using the Swiss system, with the participation of 30 chess players from 13 countries, the Angolan specialist obtained 5 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat, totaling 6.5 points.

In men's, in addition to Lutero Santos, who plays for “Gigas” chess group, Angola participated with two more athletes, FM Domingos Júnior (5th position) and Jaime Sonhy (6th).

In this sector, the gold medal went to Hamed Wafa, from Egypt, with 8 points, followed by his compatriot Samir David, with 6.5, the same as the national representative.

The national team, led by MI David Silva (title obtained in 2014), included the participation of FM Jemima Paulo (7th place with 5 points) and Felícia Felicidade (8th, with 4.5 pts).

The Candidate Master (CM), Algerian Chahrazed Djerroud, with 6.5 points, was the champion in the female class, followed by the Egyptian MI, Alegria Cigano, with 6.5 points.

In 3rd place was the Egyptian Dema Alá, with 6.5, in a universe of 14 athletes.

The continental junior event featured representatives from Egypt, Angola, Algeria, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia and Uganda.

Remember, Angola has already won the African Competion in this sector with Adérito Pedro, Erikson Soares, David Silva, Esperança Caxita, Maria Domingos and Luzia Pires.
