Lubango – The Angolan FIDE Master (MF) Sérgio Miguel won on Thursday the men’s Absolute National Chess Championship held in southern Huila province, after accumulating a total of 7.5 points.
The international masters Catarino Domingos and David Silva finished second and third both with seven points.
In the women's category, the FIDE Master Ednásia Júnior, won with nine points followed by Delfina João, with (7.5), and Maria Domingos, (6.5).
The director of the Angolan Chess Federation (FAX), Marcos de Almeida, praised the level of organization of the event, adding that the aim is to get more players from the country to participate in national and international competitions.
At least 62 athletes participated in the championship, being 42 men and 20 women from various provinces of the country.
