Luanda – Angola's Jemima Paulo finished in second place, with seven points, in the African Junior Chess Championship for men and women categories held in Mauritania. 

The Ditrov School athlete beat her compatriot Renelsa António in the final, who finished seventh with 4.5 points. 

The FIDE Master Luzia Pires, another Angolan representative in the competition that ended Monday, defeated Mauritian player Andrin Chethanah. 

Algeria's Chahrazed Djeroud won the women’s category with eight points. 

In the men's category, the FIDE Master Domingos Júnior (Angola) finished sixth with five points, after drawing in the final round with Algeria's Hallal Tarik. 

Algeria's Wafa Hamed won the men’s category with 8.5. 

At least 11 athletes took part in the event in a nine-round Swiss competition. BSV/FN/DAN/AMP
