Luanda – Angola senior women’s chess team lost by 3.5 to the Philippines on Monday, in the 4th round of the Chess Olympiad being held in Chennai, India.
Angola got the half point through the draw obtained by Renelsa Antonia against International Master (IM) Kylen Mordido.
International Master Esperança Caxita was defeated by Grandmaster Janelle Frayna, while Master Fide Ednasia Júnior was beaten by Jodilyn Fronda, as well as Luzia Pires who had no chances against Antoinette de San Diego.
In the 3rd round played Sunday, the national chess players beat Barbado, 4-0. Esperança Caxita beat Katrina Blackman, Ednásia Júnior beat Hannah Wilson, Luzia Pires overcame Kiarra Eversly, and Renelsa António beat Chanon Reifer-Belle.
In the men's category, for the 4th round, Angola beat Mali 3.5 pts.
On Sunday, for the 3rd round, the Angolan representatives lost against Denmark 4-0. David Silva succumbed to GM, Buhl Bjerre, Sérgio Miguel fell to GM Mads Andersen, Domingos Júnior lost to Sondergaard Jesper and Amaro Lutuima to Stig Rasmussen.
Azerbaijan's team are the leaders of the women's competition with 13.5 points. Angola are in the 71st position with 9.5.
In the men's competition, India come first with 15 points, while Angola are 103rd with 8 points.
The 44th edition of the chess Olympiad is being contested by 190 countries in both male and female categories.
