Luanda - Sporting Clube de Luanda (SCL) has announced that head coach Romeu Filemon has been dismissed from the club's football team due to poor results in the 2024/2025 second division championship.
The decision was taken after a series of defeats that jeopardized the possibility of access to the first division national championship (Girabola2025/26), the club said on its official website.
In a statement, the board thanked the coach for his services, but emphasized the need for change.
Until a new coach is announced, the team will be managed on an interim basis by the technical committee.
During his time at the helm, Romeu Filemón showed exemplary commitment and tireless dedication, and under his leadership Sporting Clube de Luanda experienced moments of great joy, marked by the return of football to the club after many decades of inertia, the statement said.
The club was founded in Luanda on August 15, 1920 as Loanda Sporting Club.
In 1920, it changed to its current name and on September 1, 1920, it was registered as a branch of the Sporting Clube de Portugal.
In addition to football achievements in the country, even during the colonial period, before November 11, 1975, Sporting de Luanda hosted the first official basketball match in Angola, to celebrate the club's 10th anniversary. GVA/DAN/AMP
