Luanda - Angola’s Under-18 males basketball team qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Under-18 Championship “Afrobasket”, after beating Rwanda 66-55 in a match of group B of the continental tournament that takes place at the Palais des Sports Mahamasina pavilion in Madagascar.
The Angolan team were already ahead of the score by the end of the first half of the match (35-24).
In the third quarter, the national team increased their lead to 18 (56-38) and ended the match with the score at 66-55.
With this result Angola rank second with six points and are in the quarter finals, while Rwanda are out of the race, in the fifth and last position with four points.
The Angolan player Aloiso Andrade, with 17 points was the top scorer of the competition.
In four games, the Angola U-18 team, coached by Apolinário Paquete, won twice, namely against Mali (61-57) and Rwanda (66-55) and lost the same number of times, namely to Egypt (43-69) and Guinea-Conakry (47-57).
The Rwandans have lost on four occasions, namely to Mali (49-67), Egypt (43-68), Guinea (44-64) and Angola (55-66).
For the same group, Guinea (5 points) face Mali (5 points) this Monday at 8 pm, both have already qualified regardless of the outcome.
Regarding group A, Algeria beat Benin (85-50) and Senegal defeated Madagascar (70-62). The four teams of Group A progress to the quarter-finals that begin on Wednesday.
In Group, of the five teams four will progress to the quarter-finals, with the exception of Rwanda. The four teams that move to the nextstage are Egypt with seven points, Angola with six points, Mali and Guinea with five points each.
