Luanda – São Tomé and Príncipe team arrived Monday in Luanda to compete in the second edition of Angola Cycling Tour (Volta a Angola) becoming the second foreign delegation to arrive for the international competition, a source from the Angolan Cycling Federation told ANGOP.
Athletes from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe are expected Tuesday in Angola, in a competition that includes Cape Verde and Congo Brazzaville.
The chairman of the African Cycling Confederation (CAC), the Egyptian Waghi Azzam, along with 19 officials are also in Angola for the event.
The race to have a total of 140 athletes starts Saturday, with the first stage taking place in central Huambo province in a 5 km warm up, while the 2nd stage takes place with a 145 km long distance race ending in Benguela province.
In the 3rd stage, the 170 km long-distance competition takes place from Lobito (Benguela province) to Sumbe (Cuanza Norte).
The 8th and final stage takes place on September 22 with athletes running 100 km long, starting at Bengo and ending in Luanda.
The second edition of Angola Cycling Tour ends with a closed circuit competition in Luanda.
