Luanda - The former basketball star Ângelo Victoriano was buried on Wednesday at Santa Ana cemetery in Luanda.
The second Angolan to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, after Jean Jacques da Conceição in 2013, Ângelo Victoriano died Monday at Military Hospital, aged 56, from diabetes.
During the burial ceremony, several speeches were made, most notably by Jean Jacques da Conceição, who called for greater attention to be paid to sports personalities while they are alive.
The condolences ceremony was marked by the presence of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who in his message spoke words of comfort to the family of the former 1.°de Agosto and national team player.
The backdrop of the Cidadela pavilion featured a giant screen with images of the former player’s career (1968-2024). Basketball and sports figures in general were also present, as well as government officials.
This is the second death of a figure in the sport in less than a month, after Afonso Silva, who also represented 1º de Agosto and the national team.
