Luanda - Angolan head of State João Lourenço congratulated Monday (21) the National Senior Women's Handball Team for winning the 15th title of African championship on Saturday in Dakar, Senegal.
The achievement fills all Angolans with joy, being a clear demonstration of capacity, when working in an organised and determined way, the Angolan statesman writes on his Facebook page.
“I urge everyone who has contributed to this success, on and off the playing field, to continue on this path, so that we can continue to win in the future, to awaken and stimulate, in our youth , the will to serve the nation with pride on all fronts,” the message read.
In the final of the 25th continental championship, the national team beat Cameroon 29-19.
The victory which enabled Angola to qualify for the World Cup confirms the hegemony in women's handball on the African continent, with 15 titles, a second position and two third places.
In history, the Angolans lost only one final, in 1991, in Cairo, Egypt.
