Luanda - The president of Portugal’s FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, arrived in Luanda on Tuesday morning for a three-day working visit to strengthen institutional relations with the country's sports bodies.
On his arrival at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, Villas-Boas said his visit to the country has an emotional component, which involved interacting with FC Porto's Angolan fans.
Villas-Boas recalled that this is not the first visit to the country by a president of the club, adding that his predecessors “left Angola with their hearts full”.
Elected this year to replace Jorge Pinto da Costa, Villas-Boas went to Calomboloca, a commune in Icolo e Bengo, Luanda province, where he visited the Catholic Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph.
The agenda of the 32nd president of the Portuguese club also includes a visit to the facilities of the “blue and white” club, located in Maianga.
On Wednesday he is expected to visit the AFA Football Academy in Morro Bento, meet the Governor of Luanda Province and then the Minister of Youth and Sports.
André Vilas Boas, 41, is the 32nd president of FC Porto, elected with 21,489 votes, replacing Jorge Pinto da Costa (5,224) and officially taking office on May 7, 2024.
Villas-Boas led Associação Académica de Coimbra (2009-2010), FC Porto (2010-2011), Chelsea (2011-2012), Tottenham Hotspur (2012-2013), FC Zenit (2014-2016), Shanghai PFC (2016-2017) and Olympique de Marseille (2019-2021).
At FC Porto, he won the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, the National Championship, the Europa League and the Portuguese Cup in 2011.
He was considered the 4th best coach in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics Ranking. IN/MC/AMP
