Huambo- The vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the Province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, on Monday in this central region expressed hope that the university sports tournament would be competitive and take place in a responsible and patriotic spirit.
The government official was speaking at the opening of the 2nd edition of the university sports tournament, called “DESPOINAGBE” with the participation of 80 internal scholarship holders, who are demonstrating their skills in women's handball and men's futsal.
The deputy governor appealed to the participants to be increasingly exemplary and dedicated in observing sporting values and elevating patriotic culture.
Angelino Elavoco said that practicing sports and physical education has the capacity to instill in young people the spirit of cooperation, association, discipline, teamwork and respect for the opponent, which encourages the achievement of victory with merit and ease of negative results with human dignity.
He valued INAGBE's sporting vision, as this practice brings plausible tools capable of selecting talents in specific modalities, in addition to promoting public health through physical exercise.
In turn, the director general of INAGBE, Milton Chivela, declared that with this tournament, they aim to cultivate, in addition to academic excellence, social integration and the implementation of collective work to promote sustainable development in communities,
He considered sport as a tool that unites academic life and the social dimension of the human being, concluding that sport fosters unity and true fair play, in order to encourage new friendships and the strengthening of teams, based on the principles of social and democratic justice.
With a stage at the Osvaldo de Jesus Serra Van-Dúnem multipurpose pavilion, in the city of Huambo, the event which runs until the 7th of this month, features eight teams from higher institutions from the provinces of Bengo, Bié, Huambo, Huíla, Malanje, Namibe and Zaire .
These are the Bengo Higher Pedagogical School and the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Bié, Higher Polytechnic Institute of Sol Nascente of Huambo, Higher Polytechnic Institute of Catepa (Malanje) as well as Higher Institute of Educational Sciences of Huíla, in addition to the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences of Namibe and the Nimi Ya Lukeni University in Zaire province and the José Eduardo dos Santos University in Huambo province.
