Luanda - Petro de Luanda's senior men's basketball team, African champions, are in Group A of the 34th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, to be played from the 12th to the 15th of September, in Singapore.
In the same series, Unicaja from Spain and Al Riyadi from Lebanon also take part, in a competition to be played in a one-leg bout in the round-robin system.
The competition, taking place at the Sports Hub Pavilion in Singapore, also placed the Quimsa from Argentina, Tasmanian Jack Jumpers from Australia, and also a winner from the NBA G League (USA Development League) in Group B.
Of each group, the first two teams will play for the final, the second teams will play to decide the third position and the last teams will fight for fifth place.
Petro de Luanda, the reigning national champions, are in the competition, after winning the African Basketball League (BAL), on May 24, in the city of Kigali, Rwanda.
On the eve of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup final, several world basketball figures will be distinguished, with entry into the FIBA 2024 “Hall of Fame”, with emphasis on Romain Sato (Central African Republic), Reggie Miller (USA), Danira Nakic – Bilic (Croatia) and Pedrag Stojakovic (Serbia).
