Luanda - Petro de Luanda basketball team signed American Markieth Cummings to bolster the squad ahead of the team’s participation in the African Basketball League (BAL) and the end of the domestic championship, completing the number of foreign signings for this season.
According to the club’s website, the 35 years old and 1.98 meters tall, plays the 3 position and has extensive professional experience in various teams in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
The player has already represented Egypt's Al Ahly, where he only played in the 2016 season.
Despite not being chosen in the 2013 Draft, Markieth had a great career in the NCAA, representing Kennesew State, a Division 1 college.
In 4 years in the world's biggest college league, the now Petro player scored 2048 points, 227 assists, 633 rebounds, 135 tackles, 45% on field goals, 30% on 3PT shots and 68% on free throws.
In 123 games at Kannesew State, the athlete had an overall average of 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Petro de Luanda also announced the signing of the American point guard Anthony Nelson, without mentioning the length of his contract or any other details.
The 25-year-old, 1.80 meters tall player, who wasn't drafted by the NBA in 2023, comes from South Kent High School.
The two new signings could debut Friday when Petro face CAB Benguela in the quarter-finals of the Angola Cup.
